Features

The high-end features on the Onkyo HT-RC370 are mind-blowing at this price point. At just a little over $500, you get the Marvell Qdeo 4K Upscaling processor for future resolution. This receiver includes the THX Select2 Plus Certification. This means that sound quality will be optimum for space about 2000 cubic feet and viewing distance between 10-12 feet.

The Onkyo HT-RC370 is a 7.2 channel receiver. You will have the option of having 2 subwoofers for a more balanced sound. This receiver delivers 100 Watts per channel at 8 Ohms. There are 7 internal WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) amplifiers that drive speakers to a wide dynamic range with little or no distortion.

It is also built with the 3-Stage Inverted Darlington circuits. These circuits reduce distortion and output impedance with feedback control. This is done in the power amp section. Therefore there is better non-linear distortion between the collector current and vase voltage. The end result is clear and accurate.

Set up is made easy with the Audyssey MultEQ XT. You will use the set-up mic that is included to measure up to 8 room positions for your speakers and subwoofers. You will get a more expansive soundstage especially if you have an odd-shaped room.

The Audyssey Dynamic EQ helps to provide a well-balanced sound regardless of volume. The Audyssey Dynamic Volume works to normalize volume fluctuations between different content. Dialogue or loud explosions will not overwhelm each other. You will get a level, yet dynamic sound.

The Dolby Pro Logic and the Audyssey DSX will provide extra sound dimension. These will work the surround back channels to produce front height ambient and non-directional sounds. This adds dimension when you are watching movies or playing video games.

The Onkyo HT-RC370 makes controls a breeze with the latest Graphical User Interface (GUI). A pop-up menu will come on screen for control menu while you watching a movie, gaming or connected to any other sources. You can change the receiver’s settings without leaving your couch with the On-Screen Display (OSD) feature.  There is an iPhone/iPod Onkyo App that you can use to have basic controls of your receiver as well.

Also, this receiver comes with Audyssey Multi-EQ spkr. calibration system and can calibrate the subwoofer as well.” – Sandy (USA)

Performance

Onkyo is commendable for including the highly regarded Marvell Qdeo video processing chipset in a mid-priced receiver. It renders 3D beautifully and upscales DVD flawlessly. On the 3D blu-ray of Tron Legacy on 3D The HT-RC370 produced images that can only be described as stunning. The complex picture and audio demands of this disc really tested this receiver to it limits.

First off, colors and sharpness was impeccable. Most of the movie was shot in the darkness of the virtual world. Therefore, you will be able to see how luscious and rich the black was. Every now and then, neon accents of blues, yellows, orange and white splashed vibrancy across the screen. The bright colors against the dark backdrop made the movie very eye-catching.

Skin and hair textures were clear and natural. Even though objects and clothing were mostly dark, you will be able to see the contrast between the dark hair and darker background, or machines. Picture rendered were accurate and artifact free.

The movie was not completely in 3D, but transition between 2D and 3D was seamless and smooth. 3D effect was very immersive. There was a lot of depth and separation creating a multi-dimensional hi-tech world.

The HT-RC370 handled fast moving action very well. When the motorbikes were racing to defeat each other in the first half of the movie, there was very little ghosting or judder. Quick martial arts moves were clear and sharp. This little beast of a receiver really made the movie experience truly realistic and highly enjoyable.

Audio performance for this movie added to its realism. Whether it was the ambient sounds of the thundering noises in the background did not overpower dialogue. The well-balanced sounds of the soundtrack created an extra dimension of reality.

Michael Buble Meets Madison Square Garden on blu-ray was a treat for the senses. As well as his showmanship on stage, his powerful vocals through the center channel were rich in timbre. There was stunning visuals with great video quality and depth. Colors were bright and textures were distinct. Details were life-like.

The concert was reproduced now in your room with the captivating soundstage. Directionality added realism and depth. Singing was sensational. Sounds of percussion, strings and basses came from where they should, as if you were Madison Square Garden.

There was very little degradation and sounds were well balanced. There will not be distortion if you wanted to push the volume higher. The Onkyo HT-RC370 truly rendered a realistic and immersive home theater experience.

Conclusion

Onkyo has up the ante again for sub-$1000 receivers. To offer the Marvell Qdeo 4K video upscaling processor is unheard of at this price point. The Onkyo HT-RC370 is an excellent receiver by all measures with a performance that matches receivers twice its price. Features such as the latest surround DSPs, iPod integration, Audyssey MultEQ XT, 3D, THX, DLNA and seamless networking ensures that the product is future proofed for years to come.

I’ve had this receiver for almost 3 weeks. Great so far. Easy to set up and get the proper equalization with the microphone included. The receiver is used in 5.1 mode at the moment with Fisher Studio Standard 15″ 3-way’s in front and Jenson 12″ 3-ways for the surround with a KLH speaker for the audio. The heavy bass is handled with a 15″ subwoofer and separate 150 watt amp. The sound is great and the house will shake with the right program material.” – Sassmo (USA)

This Onkyo is really amazing. Works as advertised. I just plugged it in, and from the first moment the sound has been impressive.
