Hot on the heels of the recent TX-NR708 and TX-NR808, Onkyo has released another network ready receiver – the Onkyo TX-NR1008. It replaces the TX-NR1007 and brings 3D video playback to the home. It is designed to be flexible such that you can watch a movie in the main room while the rest of your family can enjoy music in two other rooms.

Onkyo TX-NR1008

The 9.2 channel TX-NR1008 outputs the same 135 watts /channel but it now has the latest HDMI ver1.4a standard that supports 3D playback and Audio Return Channel (ARC). It is also the first Onkyo to support FLAC files in addition to other more common file formats like MP3, WMA, WMA Lossless, FLAC, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, and LPCM. It can also access a wide range of streaming Internet radio services, from Pandora, Rhapsody, vTuner, and Sirius Internet Radio®, and newly expanded services from Napster, Mediafly, and Slacker internet radio.

All three receivers have an iPhone/iPod -compatible front-side USB port that allows on-screen display of album art and navigation via the included remote.

Video and audio circuitry are also upgraded. All video sources, regardless of resolution, are upscaled to 1080p by the Faroudja DCDi Cinema processor. The TX-NR1008 is equipped with advanced ISF video calibration controls for independent optimization and fine-grained adjustments of every video source. Other processing highlights include DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD for pristine lossless audio. Bi-amping capability and a huge array of connection options complete what is an outstanding home theater receiver.

You can check out the full details, specs and the Onkyo TX-NR1008 review. It lists for $1399.00 and is now on offer at Amazon.

With these new cutting edge models, Onkyo looks to consolidate its position as a provider of the most up-to-date home entertainment features backed by rock-solid performance and intelligent design.

Users also enjoy an unprecedented level of network connectivity to many A/V components, including video display products and single speaker solutions, allowing them to stream audio files, pictures, Internet radio stations and more through connected devices.

The new receivers will come with HDMI 1.4 inputs that supports ARC (Audio Return Channel) mandated by the new HDMI standard. Being entry level models they do not have any networking capabilities but they do have a host of new exciting features that go far beyond what you would expect from receivers at this price range. All these new receivers now decode lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstreams, and include new 192-kHz/24-bit Burr-Brown DAC’s that are highly resistant to clock jitter and provide a remarkable 113-dB dynamic range.

Here is a sampling of the extensive list of useful features:

HDMI 1.4 Support for 3-D Video and Audio Return Channel

192 kHz/24-Bit Burr-Brown DACs

Convenient Overlaid Graphical On-Screen Display via HDMI

Universal Port for Single-Cable Connection of Onkyo Dock for iPod or HD Radio Tuner

Front-panel audio input for direct connection

The two higher models SR508 and SR608 comes with the latest Audyssey technologies that allows you to tailor the sound to your listening environment. The 7.2-channel TX-SR608 earns the accolade as the “World’s First THX Certified 3D-Ready A/V Receiver” for its quality and audio performance. This THX-Select2 Plus certified receiver has new power amplifier section that uses three-stage inverted Darlington output topology and a power boost from 90 to 100 watts.

According to their press release, Onkyo will begin shipping these new receivers in April 2010. They will be priced from $299 to $599.

Onkyo USA has announced that its 2010 A/V receivers will support the new HDMI 1.4 standard for all new HDMI equipped components. While HDMI 1.4 enables a variety of new capabilities for a wide range of video, audio and computer products, these Onkyo products will support both 3D and Audio Return Channel capabilities.

“At Onkyo, we are proud to be one of the first to implement HDMI 1.4 across all of our new A/V receivers for 2010,” said Paul Wasek, Onkyo USA’s marketing manager. “We are very supportive of the new standard because of the added capabilities and the simplification of system connections.”

The Audio Return Channel in HDMI 1.4 enables a TV to send audio data “upstream” over a conventional HDMI cable to an A/V receiver or surround audio controller, increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection.

Onkyo USA will introduce its first HDMI 1.4-capable products in Spring 2010.

Since 1946 Onkyo has been passionately committed to developing audio products that deliver uncommon performance, quality and value. Bundling proprietary technologies and innovations with other sound-enhancing exclusives, Onkyo continues to created award winning products that are lauded by many of the industry leading audio publications. The company’s philosophy is to deliver products that are superbly designed and built to a consistently outstanding standard of excellence. Today, Onkyo is at the forefront of the home theater and digital revolutions.
